The Giver Couldn't Give
The GIVER Couldn’t Give!
Creator of the worlds is He
All life and every good gives He.
Yet, the GIVER couldn’t give.
A peasant child of Nazareth
Poverty dogged His every step.
Bound, the GIVER couldn’t give.
Cup of cold water’s all He has,
Own meal presses into my hand.
More, the GIVER couldn’t give.
Oh! The pain in those eyes of love,
Tears brimming as my wants discern
Still, the GIVER couldn’t give.
Poor mother, child homeless, weary;
Stay, be right back with some money.
Empty, giver couldn’t give.
Gone! Both from sight no longer,
Heart sinks, sweaty hand holds a fiver.
Aching, giver couldn’t give.
God, that You? The mother the child?
You know my heart. I so desired.
Wailing, giver couldn’t give.
Dear Father, our YHWH-yireh.
We give because Your ALL You gave us.
We give for giving hearts You gave us.
We give ‘cause to You we’re giving.
Willing, humble hearts do accept.
Amen and Amen.

This poem plumbs the depths - causes me to rethink the Giver / Recipient dynamic. I am reminded of these lines from a movie I watched with my wife, Dacia, recently:
ReplyDelete“You never know whose eyes God is watching you out of”
- ‘Denver’ in the movie, Same Kind of Different as Me
- 2017
If one accepts that, then how should relate to all we come into contact with?
